Maurepas – 3200 Burgundy St., New Orleans, LA 70117 – We were absolutely stuffed after Commander’s Palace, but late at night we figured, “What the hell, let’s eat again.” We were in New Orleans after all. I’m on the fence about this place. The interior was modern and had no sound-dampening items like carpet or curtains, which made the place incredibly loud even though the number of people did not match the volume. My friends and I felt like we were shouting the whole time and we could barely hear our waiter explain the fusion-style menu. They also had some really interesting cocktails. I tried the “Gent & The Jackass,” but mostly I just felt like a Jackass because the drink wasn’t very good at all. My friend had the Omergerd, which wasn’t too bad. For dinner, I had the goat meat tacos, which were really well seasoned although the meat was a little dry in some parts. One of my friends had a spicy Hot Pot with Shrimp that had some really interesting Creole spices. It went very well with bread for dipping in the broth. I tasted a piece of the trout entree and I was shocked by how un-fresh it was. I would pass on this entirely. Overall, a solid meal that wasn’t too expensive, but nowhere near the best New Orleans has to offer.
