Khartoum, Sudan – Arrival. After a 9-hour flight to Germany, a 6-hour weather delay in Germany after boarding, a re-directed flight path to stop in Ethiopia (due to Flight Attendant Unions), and an overall 27-hour Lufthansa nightmare, we finally arrived in Sudan at 2AM. My mother, brother, and I were extremely well taken care of by our family on this trip. The picture above is the living room of an apartment that my uncle owns, which he had furnished for our stay. My cousin (his son) picked out a lot of the more contemporary/modern furniture himself. In the bottom left is a picture of some Soujouk (Sudanese) or Segook (Egyptian), depending on your dialect. It’s a spicy beef sausage fried in a pan. This was some of the best I’ve had. It might not look pretty, but the first night in the apartment, we ate half of it. To the right of the soujouk is some hard Romano cheese and cheese filled mini-croissants that our family left for us in the fridge. On the far right is a plate of sliced beef round next to cans of Coke with Arabic writing.
