Church in Khartoum, Sudan

As we were driving by and heading towards my grandmother’s house, we passed this church. My brother was baptized in this church, so he was really excited when he saw it. I snapped a quick photo for documentation purposes. The interesting thing about Sudan is that even though it is an Islamic state, there is a certain degree of religious tolerance. I remember hearing singing coming from a protestant church in Sudan one night and my mother asking in a worried voice, “Is that ok? No one is going to try and stop them?” My uncle looked at her and said, “Oh, it’s fine. This isn’t Egypt.” I chuckled pretty hard at the irony. Nowadays, Christians in a U.S. blacklisted country like Sudan enjoy more liberties than Christians in Egypt, a U.S. ally.
