Phoenicia Restaurant in Khartoum Sudan

On our last day in Sudan, my mother wanted to treat the whole family to a meal. They took such good care of us and spent so much money on us that we wanted to something small in return to express how grateful we were. After the usual resistance from any self-respecting Middle Eastern person, our family gave in and recommended, Phoenecia to us. This is a Lebanese owned restaurant that sits right on the White Nile (there are two branches of the Nile in Sudan – one is the White Nile and one is the Blue Nile). We sat outside on a large balcony and sat the family down at a long table barely shaded by a net of fake leaves. The food was decent, but not mind blowing. We had the usual Middle Eastern appetizers of hummus, baba ghanoush, and yogurt dip. Then I ordered a “Mixed Grill” dish so that I could try all of their grilled meats, which included chicken, kofta, and lamb. The Mixed Grill was pretty good and for dessert I ordered simple chocolate ice cream with some fancy pieces of chocolate in it. All in all this place is really more about the ambiance and view of the Nile. It was a great area for a last meal before we left.
