Beer. That’s what most people think to drink during the Superbowl. I love beer as much as the next guy and I’m sure I’ll have a couple of beers myself during the game, but it’s nice to mix things as well. A representative contacted me and suggested I try the below recipes featuring George Dickel No. 12 Tennessee Whiskey, Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and Crown Royal Whiskey. The recipes below aren’t my own, but I would recommend giving them a go during the Super Bowl to try something different.

George Dickel No. 12 – Dickelade
Personally, I enjoy American whiskey very much. It’s basically America’s sweetheart liquor since it’s sweeter than it’s European whiskey counterparts. I especially enjoyed trying George Dickel No. 12 for the first time. It’s smooth, sweet, and has a touch of caramelization. I would drink it straight, but for those that like to mix their American whiskeys, I always recommend citrus as a great way to cut through some of the sweetness of many cocktails. So, while the name for this recipe might be a little unfortunate, the combination of citrus and whiskey is a winner!
- 1.5 oz. George Dickel No. 12
- 4 oz. Lemonade
- Lemon Slice
Add George Dickel No.12 and lemonade in an ice-filled glass and stir. Garnish with lemon.
Captain Morgan – Captain & Ginger
Rum reminds me of the Caribbean where it was born, Latin America where it found new life, and college parties. Captain and Coke is a classic drink for many people and no home bar is complete without a bottle of this spicy sweet liquor. Nonetheless, there are many more uses for rum than just mixing with cola. This recipe is a riff on one of my favorite drinks, the Moscow Mule. Instead of vodka, it uses rum, which is sweeter and adds more flavor to the drink while the ginger adds a snappy bite to the sweet liquor.
- 1.5 oz. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
- 4 oz. Ginger (beer or ale)
- Lime Wedge
Pour the rum into the ginger beer and stir. Serve on the rocks and garnish with a lime wedge.
Crown Royal – Crown Royal Press
Growing up I always thought Crown Royal was too fancy for regular drinking. I also know some people that swear by Crown Royal as a nice whiskey to drink straight or on the rocks. I’ve always found it to be a great whiskey for cocktails as it’s fiery profile blends well with other ingredients without losing its own flavor in the mix. As I mentioned, lemon/lime is always a great idea for mixing with whiskey and the bitters helps to cut through some of the sweetness while adding aroma to the cocktail.
- 1.5 oz. Crown Royal Deluxe
- 3 dashes of bitters
- 2 squeezed lemon wedge(s)
- 1 splash of lemon-lime soda
- 1 lemon wedge
Serve on the rocks and top with lemon-lime soda and 3 dashes of bitters. Garnish with a lemon.
