A&J King Bakery – 48 Central Street, Salem, MA 01970 – We were looking for a simple, but good breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately, we didn’t really find it at A&J. At first glance, they have a lot of fresh baked goods. I opted for a simple piece of focaccia bread at the recommendation of the cashier and a black coffee. The bread was good, but the crust could have been a little crispier. The coffee was strong and spiced with a flavor I couldn’t recognize. When I asked the barista what kind of coffee it was she looked at me impatiently and said, “I don’t know. Probably one of our blends.” Then she waved quickly in front of her at the packaged coffee and said, “You can read them yourself,” before turning her back to me mid-sentence. I picked up a bag of coffee and read the poorly written description before putting it back on the shelf and leaving a little disappointed in the service. The feel of the bakery and the quality of the food has some great potential though. This is probably one of the better places in town anyway for coffee and baked goods.
